Terms of Service
Effective date: September 18, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the HeirLore website, the HeirLore mobile apps, and related services (the “Service”), operated by Kiln Digital Labs LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use HeirLore. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We may terminate accounts that do not.
2. Your Account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately at HeirLore@kilndigitallabs.com if you become aware of any unauthorized access.
3. Subscriptions and Billing
Plans
HeirLore offers three plans: Free, Story Teller, and Family. The features included in each are described on our pricing page and in the app. We may change plan features or pricing with reasonable notice.
Where you subscribe
You can subscribe in two places, and the one you choose determines who bills you:
- In the HeirLore iOS app.Your subscription is sold and billed by Apple through the App Store and charged to your Apple Account. It is managed, cancelled, and refunded by Apple under Apple's terms.
- On heirlore.app. Your purchase is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our reseller and merchant of record: Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record for the transaction and handles payment and sales tax, and its own terms apply to the purchase. Some subscriptions are processed by Stripe instead. You manage a web subscription with Manage subscription on the Pricing page while signed in to heirlore.app.
Prices can differ between the two. Whichever way you subscribe, your plan applies to your HeirLore account and is available on every device you sign in to.
Auto-renewal
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually and renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled. For App Store subscriptions, payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Cancellation and refunds
Cancel an App Store subscription in your Apple Account settings; refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Cancel a web subscription with Manage subscription on the Pricing page at heirlore.app, or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access to paid features until then. We do not issue refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.
Deleting your HeirLore account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Only Apple can cancel it. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings before or after deleting your account, or Apple will keep charging you.
Downgrading
If a subscription is cancelled or downgraded, your account moves to the lower plan at the end of the current billing period. Your stories and recordings are kept, but features of the higher plan become unavailable.
Additional recording time
Family plan members who use their monthly recording allowance can buy additional time on heirlore.app. It applies to the month it was bought for and does not carry over.
Family groups
Creating a family group requires an active Family plan. If the family admin's subscription ends, other Family plan members have 7 days to claim admin status. If no member does, the family group is permanently dissolved. Individual members' accounts and stories are not affected.
4. Your Content
Ownership
You keep full ownership of the stories, recordings, photos, and other content you create with HeirLore. We claim no ownership of your content.
License to us
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your content only as needed to provide the Service to you. We do not use your content for marketing or for any purpose other than operating the Service.
AI processing
Your recordings and transcripts are sent to OpenAI for transcription, summarization, and analysis. By using HeirLore you consent to this processing. We use OpenAI's API under terms that restrict OpenAI from training its models on your content.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for your content and must have the right to record, store, and share anything you submit. You may not use HeirLore to store or share content that is illegal, defamatory, or harassing, or that infringes anyone's intellectual property.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the apps.
- Use automated tools to access the Service without our written permission.
- Upload malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
- Record or share private information about other people without their consent.
6. Family Sharing
When you share stories with a family group, you authorize its members to view, listen to, and read those stories. You can turn sharing off at any time, and you are responsible for which stories you mark as shared or private.
7. Data and Privacy
How we collect and use personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.
8. Intellectual Property
The HeirLore apps, website, design, features, and underlying technology are owned by Kiln Digital Labs LLC and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our written consent.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate. AI-generated content can contain errors and should not be relied on as a factual record.
We are not responsible for loss of recordings or data caused by technical failures or circumstances outside our control. We encourage you to export your stories as PDFs regularly as a personal backup.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. On termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately.
12. Additional Terms for the iOS App
If you download HeirLore from Apple's App Store, the following also apply. Where they conflict with anything else in these Terms, these take precedence for the iOS app.
- These Terms are between you and Kiln Digital Labs LLC only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your license to the iOS app is limited to a non-transferable license to use it on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- We alone are responsible for maintenance and support of the app. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, of the app. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging that claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, once you accept them, have the right to enforce them against you.
Questions, complaints, or claims about the app should be sent to us at HeirLore@kilndigitallabs.com.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Nez Perce County, Idaho.
